Opposing Hogan’s privatized supersized interstate highways

Hundreds of concerned Marylanders packed the Silver Spring Civic Center Monday December 16 to register their disapproval of Governor Hogan’s plan to add privately owned and operated toll lanes to the DC Beltway and I-270. Montgomery Councilmember Tom Hucker led the charge just as he did at an earlier rally on May 10. Hogan’s misbegotten boondoggle will only add more fossil fuel burning vehicles to an overly taxed infrastructure thereby worsening the climate crisis which threatens us all.

Progress is being made. State Comptroller Peter Franchot, who wields great power as one of three members on the State Board of Public Works (BPW), expressed skepticism of Hogan’s latest proposal. As a result, the Governor recently canceled a BPW Meeting thereby delaying consideration of his plan. member Nancy Kopp has repeatedly voiced opposition to the highway expansion.
