Jill Carter for Congress District 7

Our Revolution Maryland is proud to announce our endorsement of State Senator Jill Carter for U.S. Congress in the District 7 special election on February 4. Based on Senator Carter’s (A) progressive voting record representing District 41 in the Maryland Senate and previously in the House of Delegates, (B) long history of championing Maryland’s working families, and (C) strong support for progressive policy in her responses to our questionnaire, we are confident that she will be an outstanding member of Maryland’s Congressional delegation.

We are particularly impressed by Senator Carter’s commitment to Medicare-for-All, a Green New Deal, an end to endless wars, and fighting corruption in government. For example, in March, Senator Carter was credited with helping to expose the corruption surrounding the Healthy Holly scandal when she introduced Senate Bill 619 which would prohibit University of Maryland Medical System’s Directors from entering into business deals with the institution.

As one of Maryland’s largest progressive political organizations, Our Revolution Maryland endorses only candidates who consistently put people over corporate profits. By virtue of Senator Carter’s long-standing commitment to economic and social justice for people of color, working families, the differently abled and gendered, and women, Senator Jill Carter will prove to be a most fitting successor to the late Elijah Cummings, Jr.

Our Revolution members endorsed Senator Carter by an overwhelming margin. In our Ranked Choice Voting election, she received 87.5% of the first place ballots and was chosen first or second by 95.8% of all voters.

Our Revolution Maryland will be mobilizing activists throughout Maryland’s Seventh District in support of Jill Carter. We will be canvassing, phonebanking, and fundraising on her behalf.
